puce Francorchamps area: A wealth of authenticityPhoto d'illustration : vue aerienne du circuit de Spa Francorchamps

The Pays de Francorchamps extends across mysterious forest-covered hills, along vivacious rivers, over broad pond-strewn heathlands and through lush copses up to the Principality of Liège.

This fertile landscape has witnessed the passage of time on the borderlands of Northern and Southern Europe. This is where the Latin world ends and the Germanic one begins.

A land of exchanges since Roman times, this warm-hearted region is the heir to a distinguished past. From the rampart walk of Franchimont Castle to that of Reinhardstein via the cloister of Stavelot Abbet or that of Val Dieu, history speaks to us and comes alive.

Away from it all is at the end of the street, at the corner of a mediaeval lane, along a river surrounded by gloomy forests, in the galleries of an old mine, in an old café aglow with human warmth.

A land imbued with genuineness, it invites exploration or lazing as you will. The welcome of its people, with their abundant kindness and simplicity of approach is something to be savoured. There to sample without obligation !

puce Stavelot

Stavelot’s Abbey is one of Wallonia exceptional heritage sites and in the area around it Stavelot conserves all the characteristics of an 18th-century city: a majestic Grand Place, stone and half-timbered houses, ruins, small alleys and fountains. The actual heart of the High Ardennes both historically and culturally speaking, the city of Stavelot beats in rhythm with its three museums and its various cultural events all-year-round: exhibitions, international festivals of chamber music, jazz, folktales and theatre, along with traditional festivities such as the Laetare of Blancs Moussis – one of the most famous carnivals in Belgium.

Once an abbey principality, the region of Stavelot is dominated by the great Ardennes forest. With endless fen landscape from Hockai to Coo, where the beautiful Ambleve River is driven into spectacular waterfalls, our region offers picturesque sceneries with dozens of walks for visitors upon old legendary paths leading to some charming hamlets.

Through the centuries, nature and man have shaped the landscape of the region of Stavelot, this land of history and culture, but also, and above all, of hospitality.

puce Malmedy

The town of Malmedy lies at the confluence of the Warche and Warchenne and nestles in a hollow valley below lush green hills. Surrounded by the numerous, often higher lying villages of the municipality, Malmedy is the central cultural point and attracts genuine tourists like a magnet.

Regarding the population of Malmedy, they are characterized by their openness, hospitality and not least by a large appetite to celebrate. This is quite possibly due to the many cultural upheavals that Malmedy has experienced in the course of its history as a border town. Indeed, throughout all the turbulent years the people of Malmedy have turned their local folklore and the Walloon language into cultural assets, and they never miss an opportunity to come together to celebrate a festival. The fact that the town’s calendar is plugged full of lively folklore events is the best witness of this. Just browse a little through these pages that are dedicated to local tourism and discover for yourself the innumerable sites and objects of interest in the region. You will certainly get a good impression of the various activities, walks, tours and events that Malmedy and its surrounding neighborhood have to offer. Welcome to Malmedy - we wish you a lovely stay!
